The 7th Great Big Stitched Postcard Swap!

Last month I decided to join the Great Big Stitched Postcard Swap, it sounded like a fun project and would be something I could write about here.

 

The postcard theme is Create and it can be hand or machine stitched and made of anything – fabric, ephemera, ribbon etc, but they asked us to do something innovative with paper.

So I decide to stick to paper, which I painted with watercolour. Mulling over the theme, I chose to look at it from a different direction, and create a card with items that the recipient could then create something with.

I  gathered some bits and pieces that I’ve found in interesting markets on my travels, the sort of thing that might be useful in any stitcher or maker’s stash.

I then stitched on some paper pockets to hold everything. This proved quite challenging as hand stitching through two pieces of thick paper wasn’t easy. Using masking tape I held everything together, and punched holes through both pieces using a pin. This made the sewing much easier. I did a little embroidery and stamped some words on the pockets. Finally, I added a line of buttons by weaving a strip of paper through slots.

Keeping everything in place while it is in the post is tricky, but I think a well fitted envelope will do the trick.
